◻︎ About the Salon Owner ◻︎
As postwar Japan entered a period of reconstruction, one woman played a significant role in advancing beauty education: Fueko Yagi. At a time when female business owners were still rare, she founded the Yagi Institute of Beauty Culture in Tennoji, Osaka, in 1956 as a training school for aspiring hairstylists. Through her dedication to educating future generations, she became one of the pioneering female educators who helped shape Japan's beauty industry.
The owner of this salon, Keiko Shimizu, is Fueko Yagi's niece. Raised in a family deeply rooted in the beauty profession—her mother also owned a beauty salon—she was surrounded by the world of hairstyling from an early age. Rather than relying on her family's reputation, however, she devoted herself to refining her own skills, continuing to study and perfect her craft long after opening her own salon.
Balancing an openness to evolving trends with her own distinctive aesthetic, Ms. Shimizu has become known for elegant updos that combine refined sophistication with a beautiful, lustrous finish. Through years of dedication, her reputation has spread largely by word of mouth, attracting clients from influential business and Kabuki circles, many of whom travel from afar for her artistry. Today, her salon is recognized as one of Nagoya's most respected and long-established beauty salons.
